Frequently Asked Questions about the future of ValleyChurch (VC)

Frequently Asked Questions about the future of ValleyChurch (VC)

    What is happening?
It has become apparent to the members of the board, and many VC partners, that there are two very distinct groups of people who call VC home, but have significantly unique and specific hopes and expectations concerning her future. After much prayerful deliberation, and seeking council from both inside and outside the Assemblies of God (the covering body of our fellowship), the decision to bring before the partnership a motion to divide the assets of VC and multiply our effectiveness in the Valley by two has been made. This vote will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 7PM, at 1665 Whitehall Avenue, where an Assemblies of God representative will be present. (There will be childcare available to partners at this vote. The meeting will begin promptly at 7PM and end no later than 8PM.)

    What does this mean?
ValleyChurch will be moving forward with the vision that we have been pursuing: encounter.transform.multiply. The new church will be pursing the plan that God has put on their hearts to reach theValley. We will both remain in fellowship with one another and the Assemblies of God, but as separate, unique church bodies.

What about the assets of ValleyChurch?
It is suggested to the partnership that the assets of ValleyChurch be divided between both parties to assure the success of both ValleyChurch and the new church. In specific, VC will retain1665/”the OCB”; the new church will receive the land that is on Springhouse Road (along with approximately $13,000 in the building fund); the parsonage will be sold and the assets divided between both parties; the balance of the VC checking account, on the day of the partnership vote-June 2, will be divided evenly between both parties; the truck and all technology used to accomplish the vision of VC will remain with VC.

    Is this a “split”?
In life, there are situations that sometimes arise between people that cannot be rectified without considering going in different directions. Over the past couple of years, and more specifically, in the last 6 months, some differences have manifested and become clear here at ValleyChurch.

If the vote passes, when will the new church begin, and where will they meet?
When the vote passes on Wednesday, June 2, the new church will be officially released to pursue their vision. The new church leadership team (Including: the Finns, Kubats, Millens) will make available information concerning where and when they will be starting the church. ValleyChurch will continue to meet on Sunday mornings at Catasauqua Middle School.

    What should I do?
Pray. Believe God for the best for both churches. Know that God can and will work all things together for good according to His purposes. Bless one another. Believe...

    Next Partners Meeting - April 11, 2010

The next Partners Meeting will be after service on Sunday April 11, 2010.

On the floor is the vote to accept the recommendation of the board to have a Pastoral team of Craig Miller, Eric Krause and Phil Miller.

This is a single vote for the team concept with those named above.

QUESTIONS SUBMITTED & RESPONDED TO CONCERNING PASTORAL TEAM PROPOSAL

    - (as of 4/07/2010)

Absentee ballots? No. You must be present to vote.

The current proposed three person ‘pastoral’ team works great together, what happens if the next guy does not fit so nicely? Just as we would replace any pastoral staff position, the position would be replaced by the Deacon Board.

How are we paying 3 people when we used to pay 2?
We are staying under the previous salary commitments and meeting the needs of all three individuals and their families.

Now that we are voting in a pastoral team as a whole, what if, God forbid, we need to vote someone off.  Do we vote the entire team out or an individual?
Per the constitution, the Deacon Board presently maintains final control of all staffing. (Constitution Article 2, Section 5.)

What happens in the event of an impasse among the team? The Deacon Board becomes the arbitrator of any impasse with the Trio. Their decision is final.

What if we need a baby dedication, wedding, funeral?  People who are directly in relationship with certain pastoral staff members will naturally ask them for their participation. All other needs will again be shared among the pastoral team.

If each of the team decides to have outside jobs, how does this affect their church responsibilities? All responsibilities and duties as assigned will be expected to be fulfilled and can not be effected by other commitments. In our current society, many people are working more than one job.

How are the responsibilities going to be evenly distributed with Eric living out of the Valley? Eric and Deanna are moving closer to the Valley - East Greenville. The reason they will live in East Greenville is to be close to both Deanna’s employer and the VC family.

How does this align with the Constitution, Article 7, Section 1? The team will occupy the role, collectively, of Pastor, and a Secretary and Treasurer will be selected from the deacon board.

Will there be any more teaching concerning the new model? Yes, Phil will be facilitating classes over the next several Sunday mornings from 9-9:40AM.

    Defined Roles include:Teaching/Visitation/Children-Phil
                                        Teaching/Music & Media/Service Planning-Craig
                                        Teaching/Next Gen/Discipleship-Krause
                                        Counseling/Pastoral Care/etc.-Shared

First Among a Council of Equals: Leaders Among Leaders: An extremely important but terribly misunderstood aspect of biblical eldership is the principle of "first among equals" (1 Tim. 5:17). Failure to understand this principle has caused some elderships to be tragically ineffective in their pastoral care and leadership. Although elders are to act jointly as a council and share equal authority and responsibility for the leadership of the church, all elders are not equal in their giftedness, biblical knowledge, leadership ability, experience, or dedication. Therefore, those among the elders who are particularly gifted leaders and/or teachers will naturally stand out among the other elders as leaders and teachers within the leadership body. This is what the Romans called primus inter pares, which means "first among equals," or primi inter pares, which means "first ones among equals."
