    What Is Our Church Government?

Valley Church has a Deacon Board in place and is governed by the church by‐laws. The Deacon Board is referred to as the “Official Board” in the constitution and by‐laws.

The Deacon Board members are elected during the Annual Business Meeting, which is held in the spring of each year. A deacon is elected to serve a two‐year term. Currently there are five Deacon Board members. Three are elected one year and two are elected the following year. This is to ensure that there are always “senior” members on the board. The pastor serves as chairman of the board.

In December of each year, a Nominating Committee is formed, which includes deacons, two other members/partners of the church, and the pastor. This Nominating Committee selects the names of those eligible to run for office. Those nominated are contacted and have the option of leaving their names up for election or withdrawing their names. From this process the names remaining are submitted to the members/partners for prayer and are voted on at the annual meeting.
